How would you explain your research to children?

I would ask if they like playing with Lego and how many different kinds of Lego pieces they would need to have fun. Could they imagine building something useful? Are there any Lego pieces that would make it more fun?

My best ideas arise while I’m not too busy, borderline bored and doodling.

In a spare hour, I dream that everything I should be doing is already done, and I dream of another spare hour.

What is the secret of your greatest success in your research career?

I’ve always enjoyed thinking about more than one topic at a time. At the risk of being a jack of all trades and master of none, intellectual cross-fertilization across different disciplines is where I’ve had the most fun.
