Abstract

Energy storage solutions have been in high demand due to the recent acceleration of technological development. Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) have emerged as market leaders in numerous sectors, including consumer electronics, electric vehicles, and the integration of renewable energy sources. When compared to other rechargeable battery types, LIBs have a greater energy-to-volume ratio, surpassing even nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) batteries. Although LIBs' green revolution is in its infancy, it might prove to be a game-changer in the battle against global warming. Because of this, they are suitable for incorporation in mobile devices, which often prioritize their portability and lightweight design. Therefore, important aspects of this review study have been emphasized, including, the LIBs eco-innovative advancements, environmental implications, life cycle evaluation, recycling, and potential future research to mitigate these impacts. Since clean energy can replace power from fossil fuels, the future studies will undoubtedly focus on the environmental acceptability and sustainability of LIBs.
