GDCh waives membership fees for new members from abroad for two years
The GDCh wants to support scientists around the world who face restrictions on their academic freedom. While this issue has long existed in many regions, it has recently reached a country previously considered a safe place for scientific research.
The GDCh is concerned that funding for chemistry from the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) will be cut by 75 percent in the coming year. "We hope that this does not mark the beginning of a global trend toward absurdity and arbitrary policymaking," says GDCh President Stefanie Dehnen in the current editorial of Nachrichten aus der Chemie. The GDCh expresses solidarity with affected colleagues worldwide.
To provide concrete support to scientists, the GDCh will waive membership fees for the first two years for all new international members residing outside of Germany. This initiative is particularly intended to support scientists in countries where political restrictions limit scientific freedom.
