Sustainability assessment of emerging energy technologies

As the global climate and resource crisis intensifies, the integration of sustainability into technology development has become imperative. This presentation will explore the interplay between process engineering, economics, ecology, and systems analysis within the context of emerging energy technologies. A focus on life cycle assessment (LCA) will highlight how both prospective LCA and exergy-based LCA can provide valuable insights into the environmental impact of electrochemical energy technologies. Special emphasis will be placed on hydrogen generation and its derivatives, alongside the critical role of catalyst materials and other essential resources. Ultimately, my work aims to promote the transition towards a circular economy for energy technologies, ensuring that sustainability is not just an objective but a foundational principle.
