Process development plays a critical role on the path from a promising lab candidate to a multi-ton scale final product by defining safe and robust manufacturing conditions that are as affordable as possible. It has equal importance for the ecological impact that the production of a chemical (or biological) product has on the environment. What metrics are used to measure environmental impacts from chemical manufacturing and how can process development use its crucial position and unique expertise to positively affect the sustainability of the resulting products? Alexander Dauth from Merck’s Corporate Sustainability department (and former process chemist) will address these and other questions in the first session of Process Chemistry Frontiers
