On Data, Discovery and Sensitivity in (Photo)Catalysis

Prof. Dr. Frank Glorius

Universität Münster

On Data, Discovery and Sensitivity in (Photo)CatalysisCatalysis is a key technology, since it allows for increased levels ofselectivity and efficacy of chemical transformations. While significantprogress can be made by rational design or engineered step-by-stepimprovements, many pressing challenges in the field require thediscovery of new and formerly unexpected results. Arguably, thequestion “How to discover?” is at the heart of the scientific process. Inthis talk, (smart) screening strategies for accelerated discovery andimproved reproducibility will be presented, machine learning forchemistry will be discussed, together with new photocatalytictransformations. If time allows, two additional exciting areas will beaddressed briefly: N-Heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) for improvingmaterials' properties and the application of lipid analogs in biologicalsystems.
