Recent Progress in the Construction of Artificial Nanochannels for Biosensing

In recent years, many artificial nanochannels have been constructed for various ionic, small molecules and macromolecules biosensor and applied to investigate the transfer behavior of ions and molecules. This Review article discusses the recent progress in the bioanalytical applications and prospects of nanochannels.


Abstract

There are many biological channels in nature that play a vital role in life process. Inspired by biological nanochannels, researchers have developed artificial nanochannels for basic research and practical applications. In recent years, artificial nanochannels have not only been constructed for various ionic, small-molecule and macromolecular biosensors, but have also been used to investigate the transfer behavior of ions and molecules. This review discusses the basic principles and ionic current characteristics of artificial nanochannels, deliberates on several functionalization approaches for artificial nanochannels, and highlights the applications in ion and small molecule detection. Importantly, this review provides the insight and perspective for the future development of artificial nanochannels.
